London Support - We're Hiring!

Two years ago, we became the first of the Linden Lab Official Community Gateways, with new residents 'born' directly in London City and starting their adventure here in Second Life.

We have a  trusted team of specially trained residents known as London Support, helping new users acclimatize to the virtual-world.

Some of our Support team, have moved across to the newly formed London Guides, who show residents the best that London City has to offer.

This opens up some vacancies on our New User Support Team.  We would love to hear from you, if you are willing to give the gift of your time of 4 hours (or more) per week, helping new residents get the best initial experience of Second Life.

You do not have to be an expert, but you do have to be friendly and engaging.

For information and an application form, click the Our Team button at the top of this page.

Hazel O'Connor on Saturday

A special treat as we move towards Halloween..

London City's tribute to Breaking Glass, with Hazel O'Connor, from the 1980's Punk/New Wave scene.

The hit film starring Hazel O'Connor and Phil Daniels, and broke the UK box office in 1981.

The film was called Breaking Glass and charted the success of a post-Punk/New Wave singer 'Kate' from humble beginnings, singing in rowdy back street bars, to sudden super stardom and her eventual meltdown.

Hazel O'Connor wrote and performed all of songs from the movie and just like her character in the film, experienced a brief superstardom in the early 80s with songs, Black Man, Eighth Day, If Only, Writing on the Wall, D-Days, Who Needs It and her most famous of all, Will You, which remained in the charts for 14 weeks.

Come and enjoy our live tribute show on Saturday http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/128/113/23

The Party starts at 12pm SLT (8pm UK), with the concert at 1pm SLT

Kneeling for the Anthem is OK

In a strange poll that got a lot of people steamed up on voice, it seems it became more about voting against whatever Donald Trump thought was correct. The majority of you voted that kneeling during the national anthem, when traditionally you stand, was not disrespectful.

29 (45%) of you thought it was disrespectful, 36
(55%) of you thought it was not.

One cannot wonder how the voting would have gone, if Mr Trump thought kneeling was OK.

Thanks for taking part, another poll soon.

Vote: Disrespectful to kneel?

Is there ever a time when the things you believe so strongly in, outweigh national pride, and you should feel able to protest openly, even if it offends your country?

Or is protesting, in this case kneeling during the national anthem unacceptable, no matter what?

The voting booth is back http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/71/228/23

Cast your vote, just for fun, but we love your opinions and its a great talking point for debate.

Earning Money in London City

London City offers many ways to earn cash for the good things in life.

We recognize that many new residents born into the London City Gateway, need a way to get some money quickly, and that finding a job within minutes of being 'born', is likely to prove tricky.

So whilst acclimatizing to Second Life, London City offers many way to have fun and earn at the same time.

For information click the tab at the top of this page that says Earn Money.

There is also a brand new exciting way to earn cash in London City, but it's currently under wraps until we roll it out next week.  Be sure to look at the Earn Money tab during the middle on next week for more news!

London City 8th Birthday

It was the best Michaelmas ever at Lala's last night.  It would be as it's the first time we've ever celebrated it.  But that's besides the point!

Madame Bailey had pulled out all the stops with a deluxe buffet featuring potted meat sandwiches (with the crusts cut off), crab paste and primula cheese squirted on Ritz crackers.

The music was a sort of spiritual disco and everyone had a great time.

London City is celebrating its 8th Birthday today at 12pm SL time (8pm UK) with a brand new 2 hour concert featuring many of the most famous 70s and 80s stars of all time.

On Sunday its Bailey's Bizarre Jumble Sale (Yard Sale) where its your chance to purchase pre-loved clothing, accessories and hair, and if you missed the Michaelmas buffet last night, don't worry, there will be left-overs available at the Jumble Sale.  The sandwiches will still be fresh as a daisy as Bailey will run her steam iron over them before the gates open.

Don't forget its "Best in Bailey" at Substation on Sunday evening. Wear the items you bought at the Jumble sale.

Goodness what a busy weekend.

Refreshing the voice list

Isn't it annoying when you are chatting on SL voice and want to turn someone up or down, only to find that they are completely missing from the voice list?

What a lot of people do at that point is relog, but there is no need, with this neat little trick of refreshing the voice list, courtesy of going into voice morphing preview.

Your interface might look different but this works on all viewers.

Check out this 30 second tutorial to see how...

Bailey's Jumble Sale and Bizarre

Years ago in Second Life, Yard Sales were a popular weekend activity.  As a resident progressed through their game, they would sell off their transferable items cheaply, by re-boxing them and placing them on their land.

The guests would purchase the boxes, then use the 'take' command to place them in their inventory for their own use and pleasure.

It was great fun, terribly time consuming for the person selling the items, but a wonderful Jumble Sale atmosphere or rummaging was had by all.

So imagine how distressed we all were to hear that Madame Bailey (Bailey Saxmundham), who has donkeys years worth of old clothing, was just about to delete all her old glam hairdo's and frocks, and send them off to the great skip in the sky for all time.

We have pleaded with Madame Bailey to hold a church Bizarre at her house next weekend and to box up all her transferable tat for sale.  This is a lot of work for her and she is reluctant to do it unless many people attend.

To show your support, we invite you to contact her and pledge the 10L admission fee into Saxmundham Mansion (5L to the unwaged) next Sunday (UK day time) and come and rummage around her old undies for some great bargains.

Lemonade and Ginger cake will be available on the day.   We'll keep you posted about this event!

Trash or Treasure?

Some new wonderful items have been added to the litter bin located outside Freebie Megastore in http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/88/204/23
London City.

They include and empty disposable lighter (always handy for when someone you don't like asks for a light).

An uglies paper bag (in case your body looks better than your face) and a wearable TeePee for those nights when you are too drunk to stagger home.

Happy hunting!  and don't forget there are over 100 items to collect, and at random intervals, some cash too!  Just walk in to the litter bin and you will receive your reward!
