Here comes the Sun

It may only be Wednesday, but we can look forward to a wonderful 3 day weekend ahead.
The Sun has got its hat on and its certainly going to be wall to wall heat in the UK, hopefully a lot of sunshine too!

It's important to take on lots of fluids during this hot weather.  So, as part of our public service, we thought we'd look at the all important grog deals this weekend ahead...

Most Supermarkets have some good offers but by far the best this weeks is Tesco and Asda.  And if you can stomach the stuff, Tesco's offer of 18 cans of Carling for £10 is perhaps the best offer of the lot.

We hope you will share your tinnies with us here in London City as we head into the weekend with a special Beach Party and Barbie on Bank Holiday Monday!

Remember to shop early, in case of a Beer Shortage!

Bring back the Beach

One of the things we missed the most from the long history of London City, is the Pier and Beach.

In a recent survey of visitors, this was the top 'lost' attraction that they said they would like to see resurrected.

Using some clever jiggery pokery, master builder Mr Billy Arentire has identified a great spot of land on London City North region along the the South end of the sim, where the pier and beach will fit in nicely.

Now would be a great time to check out your inventory for swimwear, we're hoping to have the build finished in time for the Bank Holiday Weekend!

Manchester

Last night a suicide bomber detonated a device at the end of the Ariana Grande concert as people were leaving the Manchester Arena.  22 people, including children are dead and 60 wounded.

A distressing day for the whole country. Our thoughts and prayers are for the families of the victims and the survivors of this horrific incident.

Eurovision: For Once, We Weren't Robbed

Congratulations to Portugal who led throughout the voting and won the contest.

What a highly entertaining Eurovision it was and thank you to everyone who packed out London City last night. You came to party and bear witness the UK's expected decimation in perhaps our last Eurovision before we exit the European Union.

To everyones surprise, the UK did better than it has in many many years, with our entry by Lucy Jordan.

Brotherhood of Man performing during half time at London City

Voting is always a bit strange in this contest, with each country awarding points in the traditional manner used for centuries.  But then, the somewhat suspicious pile-on telephone votes at the end, that suddenly award a few hundred points here and there and can catapult a country from last place, to first place.

When the countries had finished voting, UK was in 8th place, our highest ranking this millennium. It was surprising to see that bottom of the board was Spain with nil points (keep your hands off Gibraltar) and Germany who received no votes until the last moment when they picked up 3 points from Ireland (who are pissed off with England about this border business post-Brexit).

Although the telephone voting skewed the end results for many of the countries, Germany and Spain remained the resounding losers of the night.

And UK, although not winning, did far better than in decades, either picking up some sympathy votes at the cost of the Germans, or a bit of admiration for our intended future.

All in all, one of the most enjoyable Eurovision's in a long time.  Thank you for being part of it.

Saturday: Eurovision Song Contest - Live in London City

It is time for the Eurovision Song Contest again!  The show that is so bad, it is great.

This is the first Eurovision since Britain voted to leave the European Union.  Will they all give us 12 points, or attempt to give us minus numbers!   Should be the funniest contest so far!

You can enjoy the grizzly spectacle of the campest show on earth, The Eurovision Song Contest, in London City on Saturday.

From  12pm SL (8pm UK) get your space on the dance floor as we celebrate by-gone British entries, historic winners and then listen live to this year's hopefuls as they each croon their way into the inevitable oblivion that awaits them.

The half time show features previous Euro winners Brotherhood of Man and previous disaster, Bonnie Tyler!

Come and experience Eurovision, here in  London City, with all the entrants singing their fabulous songs and the good ole UK getting its usual 1 or 2 points.

The show on earth is here  http://slurl.com/secondlife/London%20City3/136/123/23 starting at 12pm SL (8pm UK) with a prize of 300L for Best in Your Countries Colours.

Don't miss it!

Eurovision Song Contest Excitement

The annual Eurovision Song Contest is on Saturday and as always, London City will carry the show live, with the London City Players appearing as Brotherhood of Man and Bonnie Tyler at half-time.

German Crumpet
This is Britain's first appearance since voting to leave the EU and formally triggering the exit process.  If you enjoy cabaret, then you can watch this for all the wrong reasons.

Even when we have had a semi-reasonable entry in previous years, we get nil points or manage to scrape together a few at the end of the show. This year, our song, which sounds more like an act of contrition and apology for leaving the EU to its misery, just isn't that good.

Macaroni and Cheese
Had Mrs Le Pen won yesterday, we could have been assured of 12 points from France, but that wasn't to be and Mr Macaroni is a staunch supporter of old ladies and will do everything he can to impress hot babe, Angela Merkel, including awarding the accolade of nil points to the UK.

Not that Eurovision has ever been remotely political. But do keep an eye out for points coming from countries such as Greece, who for their own reasons,
might want to indicate keeping on our good side, despite our flimsy song.

Here is the British entry which is bound to win us first place!   See you on Saturday, 12pm SL time.

People are always throwing things away in the litter bins in London City.   You never know quite what you will find in there.  A useful gadget or even some cash.   By walking up to the bin a random gift will be given to you.

You can visit the litter bin in Regent's Park here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/88/205/23

And the reason for this reminder?  There is a wonderful Trump Anti-Stress doll for you to shake.

London City votes for Hard Brexit

Last week the Prime Minister called for an early election in June in attempt to secure a mandate from the people to perform a quick exit from the EU.

We asked you if you preferred to go through the full negotiating period (a soft exit) with certain non-negotiable agreements in place, or you fancied taking your chances with a swift (hard) exit from the UK.

65% voted for a hard Brexit, whilst 17% voted for a soft Brexit and 17% were unsure.

Thanks for taking part.

Happy Saint George's Day

Happy Saint George's Day, the Patron Saint of England.

Today marks the day that a fire breathing dragon was slain.  <insert mother in law jokes here>

In old England, brave George is remembered for summoning tremendous strength, courage and determination. He killed the dragon that has been attacking the villagers, destroying their crops and turning their homes into ashes.

St. George was actually an outspoken Roman soldier serving a Pagan Emperor. He protested the treatment and torture of Christians by his fellow Romans.

He paid for his beliefs when he made a plea to the Emperor Diocletian to spare the lives if Christians. The Emperor decided that if George cared so much for these lowly citizens, then he must also be a devout Christian himself.  He was tortured to force him to deny his faith and when this did not yield the desired response, he was beheaded, at the age of 33.

The slaying of the dragon is symbolic of the courage George showed against the Emperor.  It is however a little ironic that George did not win his battle, nor did he ever set foot in England.  He was born in Turkey and died in Palestine.

Saint George's day was adopted in 1222, when he replaced Saint Edmund the Martyr (King of East Anglia) as England's Patron Saint.

Soft or Hard Brexit?

Decisions, decisions...

Theresa May has called a General Election in the UK for 8th June.  The third time in three years that the whole country has been to the polls.

It seems likely she will win and increase her majority in the Commons, and this gives her the mandate to push-on with a swift exit from the European Union instead of a long good bye.

The problem is this.  Do we hang around like an old scorned lover, in a broken down relationship trying to get the pots and pans in settlement, or do we just pack our things and sling our hook?

As things stand, a Soft Brexit means we keep paying in to the EU after we leave and continue to permit free movement of people in exchange for access to what used to be "the common market".

Or, do we just leave, stop paying the EU and regain control of our borders?  We would have to strike up our own trade deals and forge new friendships and renew acquaintances with the Commonwealth countries.   USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand (who we are currently prohibited from trading with under EU law) have all indicated that they would like to strike up trade routes with the UK.

As always, this poll is just for fun.. So which option would you choose?

Vote for a Soft or Hard Brexit here:

We were going to film it, until we remembered we had a perfectly good video of it from last year, and since its a lot of giant eggs with heads poking out without any names, we thought we would just re-run last years video and hope no one notices:

The Jebus Revival, Saturday in London City

Jan Couch     -      Tammy Faye Bakker     -      Vestal Goodman

This weekend in London City, we're holding a "Revival".  A toe-tapping high tempo, deep south, Gospel concert, starring our versions of Jan Crouch and Tammy Faye Bakker as hosts, with Vestal Goodman (known as Vestal Virgin) as the lead performer in our show.

In America, selling God is a multi-billion dollar, tax free business, raking in wealth for its televangelists, unimaginable even by the most famous of performers.

Each week millions of people tune into crying preachers who offer everything from cures for terminal illnesses to guarantees of making you as rich as them, so long as you send them your hard earned cash on a regular basis.

The premise being that God is a bit strapped for cash and that a mighty oak will grow from the acorn you plant.

Perpetually embroiled in scandals of racketeering, prostitution and embezzlement, it is also a cut throat business with each ministry condemning other ministries and producing evidence on each other,  as they compete for the prize fund of your money.

Kenneth Copeland     -     Benny Hinn     -     Robert Tilton

Top of the tree is Kenneth Copeland, with a tax free estimated worth of over a billion dollars, a fleet of private jets and his own airport, all used for spreading the word of the ministry... and holidays.

Every so often things go wrong, as it did in 1987 for Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, who were the original Satellite Televangelists. Jim was found guilty of mail fraud and sent to prison for 47 years, but paroled just 5 years later. His mistake was to oversell time-share stays at Heritage USA, a city he had built to spread the good word.

Since the Bakkers mistakes, other televangelists have stopped offering tangible assets and instead offer to use their own hot line direct God (who speaks to them constantly) to get you the things you want.  Since this cannot be measured, its all perfectly legal and profitable in the extreme!

However, with such extreme stakes involved, the production value of the shows produced by each ministry is paralleled only by Walt Disney studios.

Our Revival concert highlights the very best of the glitz and glamour you can expect as your sins are melted away.  It is tongue in cheek, has a free bar with hard liquor, the occasional hooker for our preachers and lots of crying.

We are not poking fun at people's beliefs, we are however aiming to lambaste the highest paying entertainment job in the world.

Starts 12pm SL (8pm UK) with 'The Hungry Goodmans' on stage from 1pm SL time.

Location: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/87/107/23
