The Jebus Revival, Saturday in London City

Jan Couch     -      Tammy Faye Bakker     -      Vestal Goodman

This weekend in London City, we're holding a "Revival".  A toe-tapping high tempo, deep south, Gospel concert, starring our versions of Jan Crouch and Tammy Faye Bakker as hosts, with Vestal Goodman (known as Vestal Virgin) as the lead performer in our show.

In America, selling God is a multi-billion dollar, tax free business, raking in wealth for its televangelists, unimaginable even by the most famous of performers.

Each week millions of people tune into crying preachers who offer everything from cures for terminal illnesses to guarantees of making you as rich as them, so long as you send them your hard earned cash on a regular basis.

The premise being that God is a bit strapped for cash and that a mighty oak will grow from the acorn you plant.

Perpetually embroiled in scandals of racketeering, prostitution and embezzlement, it is also a cut throat business with each ministry condemning other ministries and producing evidence on each other,  as they compete for the prize fund of your money.

Kenneth Copeland     -     Benny Hinn     -     Robert Tilton

Top of the tree is Kenneth Copeland, with a tax free estimated worth of over a billion dollars, a fleet of private jets and his own airport, all used for spreading the word of the ministry... and holidays.

Every so often things go wrong, as it did in 1987 for Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, who were the original Satellite Televangelists. Jim was found guilty of mail fraud and sent to prison for 47 years, but paroled just 5 years later. His mistake was to oversell time-share stays at Heritage USA, a city he had built to spread the good word.

Since the Bakkers mistakes, other televangelists have stopped offering tangible assets and instead offer to use their own hot line direct to God (who speaks to them constantly) to get you the things you want.  Since this cannot be measured, its all perfectly legal and profitable in the extreme!

However, with such extreme stakes involved, the production value of the shows produced by each ministry is paralleled only by Walt Disney studios.

Our Revival concert highlights the very best of the glitz and glamour you can expect as your sins are melted away.  It is tongue in cheek, has a free bar with hard liquor, the occasional hooker for our preachers and lots of crying.

We are not poking fun at people's beliefs, we are however aiming to lambaste the highest paying entertainment job in the world.

Starts 12pm SL (8pm UK) with 'The Hungry Goodmans' on stage from 1pm SL time.

Easter Begins!

Jesus and Jan
Stop by the Grog shop on your way home tonight, the very long weekend is finally here!
Four days of eating, drinking, dancing and  rain is ahead of us.

No Easter is complete without getting completely blasted, so don't miss out on these stunning beer deals especially designed to make your liver turn to the size of a walnut before Tuesday.

As part of our public service, we have trawled the supermarket sites to ensure you get the best deals as sobriety is somewhat indecent at this time of year.

Tip up, cos from 11am SL Time today (7pm UK) the weekend starts here in London City and runs until Tuesday!

And don't forget, the exploding easter egg hunt, a certain distasteful annual race and the jewel in the crown this weekend... The Jebus Revival on Saturday at 12pm SL time.

Bruce Springsteen on Saturday

On Saturday, our tribute band performs a Brucie Bonus.

Bruce Springsteen an American singer/songwriter, also known as The Boss, made the song Born To Run in 1975, but had to wait another decade before becoming internationally famous in the mid-80s with Born in the USA.

He has sold more than 64 million albums and more than 120 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Join us in London City for our tribute to The Boss, on Saturday.  Party starts 1pm SL (8pm UK) with the concert an hour later at 2pm.

Lost your Voice?

An interesting tip from the Firestorm people..

For those who find when they login, that voice will not work for them and subsequently have to relog multiple times:

Firestorm suggests disabling voice by going to settings <CTRL+P > <sound and media> <voice> and unticking Voice, as the last thing you do (when voice has been working) before you logout.

When you login, wait until you are rezzed, then do the same process again in reverse, this time enabling voice. Voice should then work.

So.. Does it work, because if so, in theory, it should work on all viewers?

Please comment below (anonymously if you wish) and tell us if this is a successful workaround (or not).

15 New Reasons to Celebrate 15 Years

Some exciting news out of the lab today,  as CEO Ebbe Linden, blogged 15 news items to help us all celebrate 15 years of Second Life.

It is truly gratifying to see such a level of continual reinvestment in the Second Life platform, with new ideas, performance improvements and pricing restructure,  to keep up with the times, and the evolving virtual world.

The full story can be viewed on the Second Life blog here

Ebbe Linden writes:

  1. Lower Mainland costs - Did you hear the news? We’ve reduced Mainland costs by over 10 percent. This change is part of our continued commitment to move toward a healthier economy, with more balance between costs and fees associated with land ownership, Premium subscriptions, commissions and transaction fees. For more information and context on this and other pricing changes, see the section “Updates to Mainland Costs & Other Pricing Changes” below.
  2. Double Mainland tier - We also recently announced that Premium members get DOUBLE the Mainland allotment! That’s twice as much space to build, create and design your own home, business or experience in Second Life at no extra charge!
  3. More Value for Premium Members - In the coming months, we’ll be announcing new features for Premium subscribers — including brand-new advantages that will add more value for Merchants, Creators and Landowners. There’s never been a better time to upgrade to Premium!
  4. Environment Enhancements (code name: EEP!) - Soon you’ll see a series of new customizations in the environment rendering system (also known as Windlight). Creators will have more control over the sky, water, lighting and atmosphere. You'll be able to adjust the number of real-world hours in the Second Life "day" to match that of a real world location; the cycle can be as short as the 4 hours it is now - or up to 7 real world days long. These changes will give more value, flexibility and marketability to land. Environment settings will also become tradable assets, so that they can be bought and sold in the Marketplace, creating another avenue for residents to profit from their creativity.
  5. More exclusive games and experiences - Last week, we unveiled“Linden Realms: The Wrath of Ruth” — a fiery update to a familiar classic that awards skilled players with unique prizes. There are more exclusive experiences on the way, including something special for our 15th anniversary celebration this summer.
  6. Themed Learning Islands - Getting connected to people who share your interests will be easier than ever with “Themed Learning Islands.” Soon newcomers may start their adventures in one of several themed areas, so their first experience in SL will be among Residents who share similar interests. This new initiative is in addition to our existingCommunity Gateway program which empowers independent communities to develop their own newcomer-friendly experiences.
  7. The return of Last Names - You’ve asked for it (a lot!), so we will provide a way to customize your last name in Second Life! More details will be available later this year.
  8. Gridwide Experiences - Currently, Creators can use the increased scripting capabilities of an Experience only in a region or parcel whose owner has explicitly enabled their Experience. One of the new Premium abilities will be an Experience that is enabled anywhere on the grid unless the landowner has blocked it.
  9. Auctions - We are updating our system for conducting Land Auctions. The new auction system will be integrated with Place Pages, providing much richer possibilities for describing the land for sale. Most importantly,Residents will be able to create an Auction to sell their land.
  10. Linden Homes improvements - We're bringing newer and better Linden Home designs this year.
  11. Marketplace updates - We've got a number of improvements to Marketplace in the works, too! We’re integrating many long-requested features that will help to reduce clutter and improve the functionality of listings as the Marketplace gets a facelift later this year.
  12. Improved performance -  We're working on a number of improvements to performance, from faster rendering in the viewer to reduce client lag, to changes in the simulator designed to allow more objects, scripts, and avatars.
  13. Animesh - Last year, we introduced Animesh in beta available to all Creator participants. This year, with diligent and invaluable input from the community, we plan to roll out this exciting new feature for everyone!
  14. Bakes on Mesh - Extends the Viewer and the Avatar Baking Service to allow wearable textures (such as skins, clothing and tattoos) to be applied directly onto mesh body parts as they are on system avatars. To do this, you'll 'wear' the textures as you would for the system avatar, and then edit the mesh body part to indicate the body part that should be used on each of the mesh faces; the corresponding system body part is then automatically hidden for you. This project also increases the supported resolution of wearable textures by 4 times (from 512 pixels square to 1024 pixels square).
  15. Migration to the Cloud - Finally, a huge effort is underway to move our Second Life infrastructure to the cloud. This update aims to enhance the quality and performance of Second Life for all Residents, but it will be of particular value for those who are far across the world from us. We look forward to exploring new products and more flexible pricing possibilities once this migration is complete.
