A tree from Norway

In a tradition dating back to 1945 when Britain helped Norway with some war troubles, as a sign of appreciation, they have given us a very large tree for Christmas each year.

Last night was the planting ceremony as the 30 foot tree arrived on a low loader, previously owned by Coca Cola, and was lovingly raised into position by the community heckling our builder Billy.

The Right Reverend CoffeeQueen knelt in prayer to offer blessings to our tree and for peace all over the world, and a pony for everyone.

It's fair to say that Christmas has arrived (or puked depending on your viewpoint) in the wonderland wot is London City.

The London Christmas Tree

During World War II, Norway was invaded and occupied by Germany, forcing the Norwegian king and government to create a government-in-exile in London.

The British military also helped train and organize Norwegian commandos to attack Nazi installations in Norway.

As a token of appreciation from the Norwegian people to the people of Britain, a Norwegian Christmas Tree is sent every year from Oslo to Trafalgar Square in London.
