The man with the warm and beautiful voice brought enormous pleasure to millions and had many celebrity fans including Frank Sinatra who said of Monro after his death: “If I had to choose three of the finest male vocalists in the singing business, Matt would be one of them. His pitch was right on the nose; his word enunciations letter perfect; his understanding of a song thorough.”

Everly Brothers on Saturday

Appearing  this Saturday: The Everly Brothers.

Don and Phil Everly first became famous back in 1957 with Bye Bye Love and quickly established themselves as Rock n Rollers for the rest of that decade. Wake Up Little Susie, Cathy's Clown and Walk Right Back followed successively before they moved into the rock-a-ballad style they later became synonymous with.

In the mid 1960's they chart topped with, Crying In The Rain, Devoted To You, All I Have To Do Is Dream, Love Is Strange, Ebony Eyes, When Will I Be Loved and other softer rock songs.

By the start of the 1970's both brothers had become addicted to amphetamines which lead to a nervous breakdown for Don and the duo stopped recording. By the time both were recovered, disagreements had turned into a feud and the brothers did not perform, nor communicate with each other for a decade and pursued fruitless solo careers.

Thirteen years after the split, they performed some tense reunion concerts together beginning in the UK in 1983 where they had agreed that they would only talk to each other whilst on stage, but only if it was necessary.  Encouraged by the media hype of the reunion, in 1984 they recorded, On The Wings Of A Nightingale which was to be their final song to enter the charts.

By the 1990's the brothers had made peace with each other, but their stop-start careers had eroded their following and they continued to perform one-off reunion concerts every few years until their last appearance in 2004 as featured artists for the Simon & Garfunkel tour Old Friends, Live On Stage.

Phil Everly died in 2014, but the Everly Brothers legacy will live on.
We invite you to experience their heyday and bask in the incredible love songs penned by these talented and troubled souls.

Party in the Park is at 12pm SL (8pm UK) with the stage show an hour later.

Our Cilla to play this Saturday

There were two main acts that dominated Britain in the 1960's.   One was the Beatles, the other was Cilla.

Whilst perhaps not quite as tuneful as Dusty or Sandy, our Cilla had an appeal to those who were waiting for the next big thing to emerge from Liverpool and the Beatles fans catapulted her into super stardom.

Singing all her hits and some that weren't - Don't miss this most famous icon of the 60s on Saturday in London City.  The party starts at 12pm SL (8pm UK) with the show an hour later at 1pm SL.

Philip Rosedale visits London City - The video

Philip Rosedale (formerly Philip Linden), the founder of Linden Lab and Second Life and CEO of High Fidelity, visited London City on Thursday to hang out for a couple of hours with the community and find out a bit more about our visitors.

For the last half hour of his visit, Philip took to voice to talk more about the history of Second Life, the complexities of the platform, possible improvements and his ambitions for High Fidelity.

Philip Rosedale, Creator of Second Life visits London City

Visitors to London City had the pleasure of meeting my friend, Philip Rosedale, the founder of Linden Lab and creator of Second Life on Thursday evening.

Philip talked at length about the creation of Second Life and his ideas on getting it started and then went on to explain his visions for the VR High Fidelity platform he now works on.

He wanted to know how Residents felt the mainland compared to private islands, ideas for improvements of avatars, keeping regions up and running all the time without throttling them.  All in all a very interesting visit.

He was also very interested in the London City community and how this estate retains its users.  He was very complimentary to our team and our master builder.

What's more at the time of this article, Philip is still in the region.

And here is the definitive answer to which preoccupies us.. sort of:

[12:12] Elise Banx: ok i want to know philip... is second life a game?
[12:12] Philip Rosedale: not in my mind Elise.  But I think it's a hard/deep question.  Is RL a game?  Are careers?
