Dis-May

The power grab election that did not pay off.

Theresa May, so sure that she would grab a bigger majority for her government and the mandate she felt she needed to force a hard Brexit, has failed in her mission and instead, created a hung parliament.

This disastrous result means that Theresa May will no doubt resign in a few hours time, but more likely in a few weeks time.. then present us with a new knight in armor, Boris Johnson.  The Conservatives with amble on for a few months in number 10 with all kinds of power share agreements with the minority Unionists and will then take us to the polls once again, for yet another General Election.

Jeremy Corbyn, who was expected to be decimated in this election, has had the most successful result for labour in recent years and is almost guaranteed to stand again when Britain goes back to the polls one more time...

Too many more of these elections and I'm going to be running a groove in the road on my way to vote.   What a way to start the weekend!

UK General Election: When's Voting Gonna Open?

It's general election time again, as Britain goes to the polls, for the third time in 3 years ...

Only a couple of weeks ago, it was an absolute certainty that it would be a landslide for Theresa May. But the game has changed significantly and this could now be an upset for the Tories of a Donald Trump magnitude, when Hillary Clinton was assured of winning the race to the White House.

The choices are simple:

Conservative, offering nothing in their manifesto and in fact taking some things away because at the time of the Manifesto they were absolutely sure they were going to win... but Wooden-top, Ms May will take us out of the EU quickly, or so she says. However with a reduced majority, that is not much of a mandate is it?

Labour, not a chance of winning.. or so everyone thought until a few weeks ago; so their manifesto offers free this and that, a cash giveaway bonanza, tax the working to pay for the bone idle. Not a prayer of winning, so the promises they made, make no odds that there is no cash to do any of this.  Will take us out of EU in a slow protracted way a bit like an unpleasant break-up with an old girl friend.  And yet, now they might win after all!  So start thinking about if you want your free cash. Tens or twentys?

Liberal, will keep us in the EU no matter how bad they treat us and will have another referendum.. or as many as it takes until people change their minds, but will sell out all their principals if it is a hung parliament.  Anything to get back into Number 10.

SNP.  We tuned out from Nicola Sturgeon's screeching long ago. But they have have lost a lot of popularity where Labour has gained.

Results start pouring in around midnight, with a clear winner before 2am UK time.  Come to the hub for a political debate.  Have your say but keep yourself nice!  ... but first Get out and vote.  Voting is open from 7am to 10pm.

Good luck on whoever you choose, they're all a bit naff this time around!

Who's Going to Win?

During the weekend, we asked you "Who is going to Win" the UK general election?

Up until 2 weeks ago, a landslide was an absolute certainty for Ms May, before it all went so wrong.

A week, is indeed a long time in politics.  With Corbyn a clear winner at 61%, May at 30% and Tiny Tim Farron and the rest at 9%

One can't help but wonder how the Tories are feeling right now.  If they had not gone to the people for this election, they could have remained in government for 3 more years. Whereas, if our poll is correct, they will be out of office on Friday morning.  Brutal!

Thanks for taking part.  Don't forget to vote on Thursday in the real thing!

In the penultimate episode of our favourite reality show, Obama and Biden were seen crying on TV and outdoing each other with bestowal of  awards. In todays final episode, will it be Hillary's turn?  Will she throw up, pass out and fall over the balcony into the crowd?  Find out as this grisly reality show reaches its climax!

One thing is for sure.  You can rely on the spin-off series featuring the new President to be every bit as entertaining.

You can enjoy London City's version of the Inaugural Ball in Bar Soho from 11am SLT (7pm UK), then over to Madame Lala's at 1pm SLT (9pm UK).

For many, it is about choosing the lesser of the two evils. For others it is a decision whether or not to stay on the same path, or veer from it with an untested politician who promises a brighter future.

However you decide, have a great day and sincere thanks for one of the best ever reality shows.

The Second Presidential Debate - Live in London (6pm SLT, 2am UK)

You opinion matters tonight as the Second Presidential debate takes place.

Will Hillary cough up a lung and fall unconscious into  the crowd, or will Trump goose the women in the front row and follow it up with a mass hootering?

These are the things that make this debate one of the most entertaining slow motion car-crashes of the modern time.

Witness this grisly spectacle and have your say, live as it happens, here in London City. Bring some popcorn, this is high calibre entertainment, with the tiniest smattering of politics.

Starts  6pm SL Time, 2am UK Time.  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/82/221/23

Presidential Debates, Round One

A lively debate was enjoyed last night by those who gathered in London City to see the first presidential head-to-head.

Hillary Clinton, somewhat reminiscent of a Cheshire cat, with a permanent broad smile, was effective.  Far from coughing, wobbling and falling off the stage into the audience, she delivered a well rehearsed message and remained calm.

The consensus of those watching form London City, was that she left  Mr Trump somewhat on the hop, unable to answer questions without a convoluted preamble, and forcing him to adopt a defensive position throughout, without much if any opportunity to attack.

There will be a 2nd debate on 9th October and a third and final head-to-head on 29th October.

Cameron wins Best in Number 10

"I have a tiny majority but my wife still loves me"
All hail the outright winner of Best in Number 10, David Cameron.

Cameron squeaked home this morning being able to form his own government and kicking Liberals to the kerb.  He no longer needs them, nor does the rest of the country it seems as they look set to pick up just 8 seats in total.

Don't forget your pledge Dave.  An In/Out Referendum on Europe in 2017.

Best in Number 10 - The Results

Unusual results here in the London City General Election..  A Labour Win!

Labour 41, UKIP 25, Others 20, Conservatives 15 and Liberal coming last with 14.

In our election, Labour would win and form a majority government.

In reality Labour look to be in for a truly terrible night.   Voters in our election predicted Liberals would do badly.  This looks set to be an accurate prediction.

Real life exit polls which are always iffy at best predict  (326 seats to win):
Liberals 2, Labour 239, Conservatives 316, SNP 58 and UKIP with 2.

If this happens, Conservatives would be 10 seats short of being able to form a majority government so would need to form a coalition.  If Liberals win the forecasted 10 seats, then it is just enough to squeak them through and back into power.

Best in Number 10 - The Results

Today is the day where we all get our say.

It is Thursday 7th May and today is the General Election day in the UK.

Don't forget to vote.   Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm.

Election Result coverage begins at 10pm on most networks, with some early results around midnight and a picture emerging of which way the election will go, from around 2am Friday.

Be online and in the London City Hub to dissect the results as they happen!

Vote now: Best in Number 10

With less than a week to go before the General Election in the UK, our poll here in London City is far from reflecting the real life current trend.   The community is watching this with interest.

The real life polls have no clear winner, with Conservatives ever so slightly in the lead, but still needing to form a coalition in order to form a government.

The London City poll has Labour out in front (dream on Ed) and UKIP close behind.  "Others" are in third place, presumably the SNP and  Welsh Plaid Cymru Party with a smattering of Green votes. Bizarrely at the bottom of our poll is Conservatives with the Liberals doing marginally better.

In our poll, the UK Independence Party very much holds the balance of power being able to form a government with any of the main parties.  Of course this could never happen in real life due to our strange seat allocation system in the House Of Commons, where UKIP could do better than any other party but still get far less seats.

It does seem that this election will see the very same people returned to power for another five years, with perhaps a referendum sometime between now and death.  More likely than a referendum, is that we shall all be singing the Anthem of the European Union and waving their flag instead of our own, as the next boat load of people from Europe arrive on our shores and uncontrolled immigration is allowed to continue.  Depending on where from Europe you come from, the streets of London can truly be paved with gold.

Sing along now...

There is of course still two full days of campaigning before the big day itself and if you have not voted already, please come on over and select who you think would be "Best in Number 10".
