Let there be light... and there was!

Today is the Winter Solstice.
That means that it is the shortest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere with a sunset at 3.53pm or seeming even earlier if its cloudy.

So that's the bad news out of the way.  The good news is that for those of us who detest winter and darkness,  just hang in there, things are about to improve!

Sunset will be a minute later each day now.

By New Years Eve it will be just after 4pm, and by the end of January we will start to enjoy an extra 2 minutes a day of light and the sunset won't be until 4.40pm.

By end of February the daylight will increase by an hour a month, with sunsets at 5.40pm. By the end of March you simply won't care, it will be 6.30pm before night time and when the clocks go forward on 30th March, we will be basking in sunlight until 7.30pm.

The beauty of virtual worlds is that you can stick two fingers up at Mother Nature and roll the seasons a bit earlier if you want to. This year will be no exception in London City, where we like things as sunny as possible.  In fact, there is already a couple of daffodils sprouting shoots which would indicate a very early spring!
